Lilienstraße — Project started

Date: 11.06.2024

The Lilienstraße series aims to create an unbiased collection of societal positions and opinions in contemporary Germany, beginning in the state of Brandenburg in 2024.

People who are neither politicians nor public opinion leaders are invited to participate. In collaboration with the artist, a brief and concise formulation reflecting the position of the depicted person is developed in a dialogical format — providing an opportunity for those who feel underrepresented in the current political agenda to express themselves and their milieu. On a visual and textual level, the project explores how the political versus private image of a citizen is formed, and what constitutes the image of a homo politicus. Continuing August Sander’s tradition of typological documentation, the project interrogates whether “objective” social photography remains possible in post‐unified Germany. Its theoretical framework draws on Horst Bredekamp’s Theory of Bildakt and Wolfgang Kemp’s reception aesthetics.

The series is ongoing.
